Turkey’s Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has imposed five separate sanctions on television channels Show TV and NOW TV, as well as on digital platforms Disney+ and Spotify. The decisions were announced publicly by RTÜK member Tunca Keser, who represents the Republican People’s Party (CHP) on the council, via social media platform X.
Show TV, which is under the control of the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF), was fined two percent of its revenue. RTÜK cited scenes from four episodes of the series Veliaht, arguing that they normalized violence.
NOW TV was also fined two percent over episodes of the series Halef: Köklerin Çağrısı broadcast on 11 and 18 December 2025. RTÜK stated that the portrayal of a married man remarrying violated broadcasting principles prohibiting content that contradicts gender equality, encourages pressure on women, or exploits women.
In addition, NOW TV received a one percent fine for five episodes of the program Efsane Futbol, on the grounds that the limits of proportional product placement were exceeded and that products were given excessive emphasis.
Sanctions against Disney+ and Spotify
As part of its review of digital platforms, RTÜK fined Disney+ two percent for what it described as vulgar language used in five episodes of the program Konuşanlar.
Spotify was also fined two percent, with RTÜK stating that certain playlists and song titles were deemed contrary to national and moral values and public decency. The council further ordered the removal of the relevant content from the platform’s catalogue.
RTÜK said inspections had identified violations of broadcasting principles and that sanctions were imposed accordingly.
