Layoffs in Hürriyet Newspaper

In Demirören Group’s Hürriyet Newspaper, a lot of employees were laid off.

According to some statements, the number of layoffs is not yet clear, but it is stated that there are about 40 people.

Layoffs’ were found out from local municipalities

It is stated that the layoffs are done without even informing the service chiefs and human resources. One of the fired press workers said soL in this group that he saw such a method of dismissal for the first time.

When some journalists called their relatives and asked if there was any notification from the local municipality, they learned of the notice sent by the newspaper. Some journalists found that they were dismissed when they went to work they could not turn on their computers or could not access their e-mails.

One of them was Serkan Ocak. Ocak wrote in his social media account “I had to live this in my journalism life; I learned that I was fired from Hürriyet when my e-mail account denied access. In summary, I am fired, my people, do not forget us”

Most of the lay-off’s are from previous period

It is not known how many people are notified in the newspaper yet because the employees who live alone will go to their homes to learn whether they are notified.

On the other hand Turkey Journalists’ Union (TGS) in which Hürriyet Newspaper is affiliated, a meeting will be held tomorrow on the issue and learned that a statement made after the meeting.

It is stated that the layoffs may have been made in order to make room for “new” employees after Hürriyet’s change of hands.

Serkan Ocak, Banu Tuna, Cinar Oskay, Silk Yezdani, Sebati Karakurt, Kenan Başaran, İbrahim Yurtbay, Önder Öndeş, Dürdane Kırçuval, Şebnem Turhan, Aslı Barış, Esra Açıkgöz, Aydil Durgun are the names that have been dismissed so far.
