ICFJ Knight International Journalism Awards applications open

Each year, the ICFJ honors colleagues of distinguished achievement with the ICFJ Knight Journalism Award. Nominated journalists are expected to have produced pioneering stories or media innovations that have had an impact on the lives of people in their countries. Reporters, editors, technologists, media executives or journalists can be nominated for the award. Anyone can also nominate themselves. The deadline for applications is Sunday, February 5, 2023.

The winners will be honored at ICFJ’s Tribute to Journalists 2023 program in Washington D.C. on November 2.

In addition to the areas where the candidate’s work will be included in the application, some questions that will form the basis for the evaluation of the candidate must also be answered.

  1. Please tell us why you believe the nominee is worthy of major international recognition. Your response should address the quality and importance of the nominee’s work. Since your response will weigh heavily in our assessment of this nominee, please take all the space you need to provide details about the nominee, the work and the context that makes it important.
  2. How has the nominee’s work as a journalist, news media manager, or news innovator made a significant impact and improved people’s lives?
  3. For instance, has the work led to changes in law or policy that benefit the public? Has it exposed high-level corruption and led to official investigations, arrests or dismissals. Has it resulted in corporations ending practices that harm communities and the environment? Has it given voice to oppressed groups or resulted in improved services for them? To make your nomination the strongest it can be, please share SPECIFIC examples. Please send us three story links that are good examples of the nominee’s work, and  provide any relevant details or background that might be useful.
  4. Please describe your relationship with the nominee (editor, colleague, professor, etc.). Feel free to explain in detail how you are familiar with the nominee’s work.
