AKP Balikesir Deputy Mustafa Canbey, who took the floor on behalf of his party on the group’s proposal to discuss the Parliamentary Research proposal in front of other proposals, claimed that the press was “extremely free”. The argument that Canbey, who was the manager of the Press Ad Institution in the past, “newspapers can choose the headlines they want” caused a controversy. CHP Istanbul Deputy Mahmut Tanal asked, “Was Sözcü newspaper punished for that?”, Canbey replied, “Yes yes”.
