Sözcü newspaper, despite fulfilling all financial obligations announced that the Anadolu Agency unrightfully terminated the subscription. Sözcü said in a statement that payments were made on time.
Istanbul Journalists Association’s President Mehmet Mert said the following about AA’s cancellation of Sözcü’s subscription: “I can’t believe it. This is an agency founded by Atatürk’s instructions. It is interesting that the agency, which has the duty to inform the public, takes such a decision. Point where press stands in Turkey is sad. This action must be taken back. The right to receive news cannot be prevented. No institution can exercise this right.”
