The IJA Academy, the educational platform of the International Journalists Association (IJA), is launching a new event series titled TruthLab Talks, focusing on combating disinformation in the digital age.
The first event will take place on January 24 in Mainz and will feature Mirko Drotschmann, journalist, historian, and well-known content creator behind “MrWissen2go.” Under the title “Journalism and the Fight Against Disinformation,” the discussion will explore how false information is created and spread, why media literacy is more important than ever, and how to identify reliable sources. Participants will also gain practical tools for dealing with manipulative content.
The event is aimed at young journalists, media volunteers, and engaged media users and will be held at Bürgerhaus Hechtsheim (Am Heuergrund 6, 55129 Mainz), starting at 2:00 p.m.
TruthLab Talks is supported by the European Solidarity Corps and Jugend für Europa. Participation is free of charge, but advance registration is required due to limited capacity.
With this new series, the IJA Academy aims to bring together journalists, young people, and media users to strengthen critical thinking and media literacy in the face of growing disinformation. The Mainz event marks the starting point for future TruthLab Talks editions.

Born in 1986, Mirko Drotschmann is a German journalist, YouTuber, and TV presenter. He studied history and cultural studies in Karlsruhe and is a presenter for ZDF’s “logo!” children’s news program and the documentary series “Terra X.” Since founding his YouTube channel MrWissen2go in 2012, he has explained history, politics, and current affairs in an accessible way. In 2023, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his contribution to digital media literacy and the fight against disinformation.
