Support to protests from Ahmet Nesin

CANLI YAYIN - Frankfurt Kitap Fuarı'nda tutuklu gazetecilere destek eylemi!

Ahmet Nesin attended the International Journaist’s protests. He interviewed Bold Media on YouTube. He said “We have a lot of friends in prison. As for now there’s nothing left to say for Turkey.”.

Ahmet Nesin’s interview with Fatih Akalan, Bold Media:

“I’m not sure whether to think if there is any freedom of expression left in Turkey”

What do you say about it? Hundreds of journalists are in jail right now.

-Yes, there are a lot of friends of ours in jail. There is nearly nothing left to say for Turkey. If an another country’s president could say “don’t be a fool” to President of Turkey and if he swallow it for 8-10 days, I am not sure whether to think if there is any freedom of speech left in Turkey.” We are genuinely in an awful place. You send a district governor to a city which is a district of another country, and then you say, “We don’t fight there, we didn’t go there to invade,, it’s unimaginable. It is forbidden to say “Invasion” but free to send a district governor. You say “I am not fighting.” but go there with a tank and a plane. There’s no point in telling this to fight terrorism. In the territory of another country, you are fighting with the terrorist organization of another country. By saying PKK is equal to PYD and fighting with the PYD in Syria, you have no right to say that it is harmful for Turkey.  Tomorrow, whether in Syria or in Iraq, Kurds are going to decide how they’ll live by themselves and with the administration there. Kurds’ living there as a federation or a coalition could bother Turkey equally it bothers Jamaica.

-On the other hand, it is a crime for people to make anti-war statements…

Well, I expect that Erdoğan could bring a Decree tomorrow and change the name of the children who are called “Savaş” (War) by court order, because I know that those who were named Deniz, Barış, Sinan and Yusuf were not taken to hotels in a period.

“Our gathering became a news quickly, this means our voice is heard”

Our friends are unfurling posters right there. Among the posters there are Ahmet Altan, Nazlı Ilıcak and nearly 200 more journalists.. We are acquaintained to some yet journalists on the reporter status are in prison for 3 years.  The ruling says the judicial packages, we will pave the way for freedom of expression, but the detention continues. There is also a big fairground here, people are trying to be heard, but I think we can not change much.

-What do you say?

There is a very serious lobby on behalf of democracy. 2 or 3 weeks ago we gathered in Berlin. Two and a half years ago, when we first arrived, we came together, yet it didn’t have much effect, people didn’t hear. However this time before the lunch break in Berlin, the Yeni Akit newspaper announced that we had “a coup“.

I even said there were friends thrown out of the army abroad, and now that we are planning a coup if only we called them to the meeting, I said, the nerves were so tense that no one had a smile. But it was actually a serious matter. They made our news before we gave a lunch break.

It seems that there is a serious lobbying everywhere in Europe and America. And the world began to understand us. They began to understand socialists. They began to understand our journalist friends They began to understand Kurds. They eventually began to see how this coup was made therefore Erdoğan signed an agreement.

As the title of my today’s column I wrote “Erdoğan saved 5 days for his judgement”  The fact that the Senate is going to examine Erdoğan’s assets means that this will go to court very seriously and even go to court as a war criminal.

If Erdogan goes, we have to know that democracy will not come immediately. We will struggle for it really hard. It seems that we will deal with Erdoğan’s military and bureaucracy as much as we deal with Erdoğan himself.
