Social media rivalry intensifies: Zuckerberg overtakes Musk

Meta-owned platform Threads has crossed a critical threshold in the global social media race, surpassing its main rival X (formerly Twitter) in daily mobile user numbers.

Initially launched as an alternative to X, Threads has now firmly established itself among mainstream platforms. Analysts point to its deep integration with Instagram as the key driver behind its rapid growth.

By allowing users to join Threads within seconds using their existing Instagram profiles, Meta effectively removed major entry barriers. As a result, the platform experienced swift user adoption. In contrast, X has recently gone through a comparatively slower period of user growth.

Simpler design attracts users

Differences in user experience are seen as a major factor behind the shift. While X remains a central hub for real-time news, recent changes to content policies and interface design have drawn criticism. Threads, by comparison, has gained traction with its cleaner and more streamlined structure.

Threads still unavailable in Turkey

Despite its global momentum, Threads remains inaccessible in Turkey. Since April 2024, the platform has suspended operations in the country due to local regulatory and competition-related requirements, leaving it absent from a significant market.

So far, no official timeline has been announced for when Threads might resume operations in Turkey.
