RSF’s Exile Journalists Map: A Call to Action for the Protection of Free Speech

For the first time, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has published a map showing the migration flows of journalists forced to flee their countries for security reasons and the countries hosting exiled media workers.

In the map that Reporters Without Borders (RSF) published a map showing the migration flows of journalists forced to flee their countries for security reasons and the countries hosting exiled media workers, most of the countries providing asylum to threatened or persecuted journalists are located in Europe or North America. The map reflects not only armed conflicts in Europe (Ukraine), Africa (Sudan) and the Middle East (Syria), but also recent tensions and political upheavals that have fueled the persecution of opposition or independent journalists.

At a time of global challenges to the provision of news and information and propaganda wars, RSF, which provides a range of services for journalists in exile and helped create the JX Fund, is calling for an international mobilization to support media in exile, whose impact reaches beyond the borders of their countries of origin.

The map shows journalists fleeing countries where freedom of expression is under threat, such as Syria, Sudan and Ukraine. Journalists working in these regions often face persecution, imprisonment and even death for reporting on sensitive issues or expressing critical views. The map also highlights the important role that countries in Europe and North America play in providing sanctuary for these journalists.

RSF’s work supporting media in exile is crucial to ensure that these journalists can continue to report on important issues and be a voice for the voiceless. The JX Fund becomes a way for RSF to support these journalists by providing them with financial assistance to continue their work.

In conclusion, RSF’s publication of this map is an important step in raising awareness of the plight of journalists in exile and the need for more support for their work. It is a call to the international community to take action to support these brave individuals who risk their lives to report on important issues and give a voice to those who have no voice.
