‘Media, Power and Opinion’ Panel to Be Held in Frankfurt

R. Hale Seferoğlu by R. Hale Seferoğlu
08/05/2026

An important event focusing on the relationship between media, democracy, and public opinion will be held in Frankfurt. The panel, titled “Media, Power and Opinion: Between the Flood of Information and Democratic Discourse,” will take place on June 1 at Haus am Dom.

Organized as part of the AGORA FFM event series, the program will discuss the growing flow of information in the digital age and its impact on democracy. The event is being organized in cooperation with the International Journalists Association and Forum für Interkulturellen Dialog e.V.

Media influence and democratic debate on the agenda

Topics such as the spread of fake news, algorithm-driven echo chambers, and increasing social polarization will be addressed during the event. Participants will examine from different perspectives how media shapes people’s thinking and influences public opinion.

The panel will also discuss how media affects political attitudes, contributes to radicalization processes, or has the potential to limit them. The central question of the event will be: “Who influences our opinions, and how free are we?”

Experts to offer different perspectives

The panel, which will feature experts from media practice, academia, and the field of combating extremism, will be moderated by journalist and Islamic scholar Abdul-Ahmad Rashid. Organizers aim to create a multidimensional and constructive discussion environment through Rashid’s experience.

The discussion will also address where the line begins between informative journalism and manipulative influence.

Participants will also be able to speak

The program will not be limited to panel speeches alone. During the open discussion session at the end of the event, participants will also have the opportunity to share their views, ask questions, and discuss possible solutions related to media literacy.

Emphasizing the importance of face-to-face dialogue and interaction in protecting democratic values, the organizers stress the message that “democratic coexistence is not built in social media feeds, but through the practice of living together.”

Participation is free, but capacity is limited

The event will begin with door opening at 7:00 p.m on Monday, June 1, 2026, while the program itself will start at 7:30 p.m Participation in the event at Haus am Dom in Frankfurt will be free of charge.

The names of the panelists are expected to be announced in the coming days. Due to limited capacity, early registration is recommended.

Applications can be made via FIDeV Events Page.
