The General Directorate of Security profiled the Journalist Post magazine which has been published in 3 languages for 3 years and its authors and editors. The confidential document was revealed in the case file conducted against Dicle Fırat Journalists association Co-Chair Dicle Müftüoğlu.
20 JOURNALISTS PROFILED!
According to the Mesopotamia Agency, the incident unfolded as follows:
After living abroad for a certain period of time due to the cases against him, journalist Aziz Oruç, who was returned to Iran without a court order on the grounds that his passport was forged when he wanted to cross to Europe through Armenia, was left at the Turkish-Iranian border and detained and arrested in the Dogubayazit district of Ağrı on December 11, 2019.
The case file in which Oruç was tried for alleged “membership of an organization” also included journalists’ profiling made by the General Directorate of Security for intelligence purposes. The file was classified as confidential and in the file in which Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) Co-Chair and Mesopotamia Agency (MA) editor Dicle Müftüoğlu and 20 journalists were charged with “knowingly and willingly helping the organization”, stated that they helped Oruç.
THEIR NAMES, ID NUMBERS, POSITIONS IN THE MAGAZINE WERE NOTED
In the document based on intelligence information about the Gülen Movement, it was stated that the journalists’ articles appeared in a magazine called “Journalist Post”. In the profiling minutes, the journalists’ names, Turkish identity numbers, positions in the magazine and information about whether they are registered on the National Judicial Network (UYAP) were included.
In the list which the directore and authors of the magazine were profiled, Engin Sağ, Şemsi Açıkgöz, Mustafa Kılıç, Yüksek Durgut, Ramiz Kılıçarslan, Necdet Çelik, Hasan Cücük, İsmail Muhammet Sağıroğlu, Enes Cansever, Basri Doğan, Türkmen Terzi, Vedat Demir, Rabia Yavuz Türe, Yunus Erdoğdu, Naciye Nur Kılıç, Erkan Pehlivan, Dicle Müftüoğlu, Mustafa Kuleli, Erkin Emet and Chairman of Turkish Journalists’ Union (TGS) Gökhan Durmuş were included in the list. Minutes stated that Journalists Durmuş and Müftüoğlu’nun sent to the magazine , on May 24, 2022 174774 registry number 356021 Registry Number was signed by the police officers in charge of the Counterterrorism Department Directorate of the police security services.
It was stated that the Ministry of Interior, at the request of the General Directorate of Security, created a list of names and information notes for the Gülen Movement with an open source search, and sent the list of records created with the request of the Gülen Movement to be evaluated in the work of the Provincial Police Department.
THE CONFIDENTIAL DOCUMENT WAS SENT TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OF 11 PROVINCES
The list sent to the General Directorate of Security was sent to the anti-terrorist branches of the provincial police departments of Ağrı, Ankara, Antalya, Diyarbakır, Giresun, Istanbul, Izmir, Kahramanmaraş, Kocaeli, Sivas and Trabzon as a confidential document.
In the confidential document, it was stated that the operation should be done in line with the instructions received from the judicial authorities for the transaction for the people in the lists sent. It was emphasized that the prepared list will be evaluated in the operations. “This information note and name list are in the annex. The information should not be shared with unauthorized persons and institutions according to the Need-to Know principle. Necessary operations should be carried out in accordance with the instruction/instructions to be obtained from the judicial authorities regarding the mentioned persons in the information. As a result, information should be given to our head of department.” “
DICLE MUFTUOĞLU: THE REAL CRIME IS TO LABEL JOURNALISTS
DFG Co-Chair Dicle Müftüoğlu stated the following about the profiling: “My journalist friend Aziz Oruç was expelled from Iran to Turkey. His family had also reached out to me because he was staying on the street at the border line. Since my family lives in Doğubayazıt, I requested that they welcome Aziz to their home. Due to such a simple, humanitarian and friendship-related situation, my father was arrested at first and spent 8 months in prison. A lawsuit was filed against me for allegedly ’helping the terrorist organization’. When we look at the case file, there is no evidence of a crime other than what I have described. However, a secret registration document is being transmitted by the police in order to create a perception about me. Along with this document, they intend for me to be punished in this case by being shown to the court as a criminal or ‘associated with terrorism’. However, it should be noted that the main crime is to label journalists. I am profiled just because I write for a magazine, in other words because I do my job. I am also a representative of a professional organization, and the article I wrote was written in order to convey the struggle waged by our association and the difficulties faced by Kurdish journalists. I am wanted to be filed for doing my job. TGS Chairman Gökhan Durmuş exposed the same. Since we wrote in the same issue, this situation was revealed in my case file. I emphasize once again that profiling is a crime, and against all this, we will continue to say that journalism and practicing profession is not a crime”
