“There is no freedom of press and expression in Turkey!” TV5’s program hosting Hakan Şükür was removed from the air due to pressure

Former football player and former AKP MP Hakan Şükür was a guest on the TV5 program ‘Düşünme Vakti’ once again revealed the pressure on the press in Turkey and the destruction of freedom of expression. Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) Chairman Ebubekir Şahin announced that an investigation has been launched on TV 5. TV5 channel management took a step back and removed the program from the air.


A statement came from the channel after the President of the Supreme Council of Radio and Television (RTÜK) Ebubekir Şahin announced that an investigation had been launched about the TV5 channel, which hosted former national football player Hakan Şükür.

In a statement made by the TV5 Editorial Board, it was argued that the hosting of Hakan Şükür was out of their knowledge. It was announced that the Düşünme Vakti, in which Şükür was a guest, was removed from the air.

In its statement, the channel also reminded that Osman Öcalan, brother of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, was broadcasted on TRT.

Presenter Mehmet Ali Kayacı closed his program by quoting a verse.
