In the trial of imprisoned journalist Mehmet Baransu, Court committee decision was continue detention.
Journalist Mehmet Baransu completed his fifth year in prison. At the evaluation hearing on March 5, which is the anniversary of his arrest, Baransu’s lawyer Gülşen Korkmaz once again demanded release of her client, stressing that his detention exceeded the principle of measure.
Investigating the detention status of Baransu, the board of judges made the decision of “CONTINUED FOR THE IMMEDIATE STATUS, REJECTING the request for release”.
Baransu’s brother @mehmetbaransu shared the report on his Twitter account and revealed the scandal.
The court decided to continue the detention on the grounds that Baransu’s ex-wife was not heard as a witness.
At the ” ORDERED AND ADJUDGED ” part of the statement, “… the presence of unheard witnesses, the ex-wife of the defendant to be heard, the possibility of putting pressure on the witness due to the hostility between them on the statement of the accused at the hearing …”
Baransu’nun kardeşi @mehmetbaransu twitter hesabından karar tutanağını paylaşarak yaşanan skandalı gözler önüne serdi.
Why the reason is irrational?
Esra Konur, ex-wife of Mehmet Baransu, was heard as a witness in the hearings held on 10-11-12 December.
Konur had previously changed the prosecution and police statements. Konur said in her new statement: “Tuncay Opçin came to the hospital when my child was born. I only saw him there once. Other than that, there is nothing I saw with my eyes. At that time, I was dealing with my child’s disease for two years, it was a weak communication time for us. I have not seen anything about Mehmet’s meeting with Opçin and receiving money. ” used those expressions.
Konur replied to the question of the head of the court “Have you received a threat from Baransu?”, saying that they had problems in paying for alimony, but such problems could be experienced.
To the justification of the decision;
“Let alone knowing the file he forgot the witness he listened to, and judge Ali Günay and his delegation, who were unaware of their actions, decided to continue the detention of my brother in March 2020!”
Reacting with his words, Baransu’s brother stressed that the court listened to Esra Konur for 3 days at the hearing in December.
