On September 4, 2022, we learned from the news in the media that the law enforcement authorities of the Republic of Turkey have filed profiling about the authors and editors of the Journalist Post Magazine and have initiated an investigation against them.
First of all, the publisher of the journal, the International Journalists Association (IJA), is working to ensure dialogue, solidarity, professional development, independent publishing and media freedom among media employees in line with its founding purposes.
After being transparently audited by Germany, the country where it is currently located, it has been registered as a “public and non-profit institution working for public interest”. It has also been accepted as a partner non-governmental organization of the European Union.
Available in Turkish, English and German, Journalist Post Magazine, which is the subject of the investigation, has been publishing in order to spread freedom of expression and press all over the world and has so far featured 74 articles, interviews, news and analysis by journalists and academics from 32 different countries on its pages.
To date, the contents of the articles published in the magazine have not been found to contain any criminal elements in the countries where they are published, and have not been the subject of litigation. Despite this, the law enforcement authorities of the Republic of Turkey have interfered with freedom of expression by portraying journalistic activity as a crime. The Journalist Post is published precisely to combat these illegalities. Because according to universal law, it is not a crime to think, write and speak.
The law enforcement officers who actualized this profiling have initiated a legal process for those who have signed the relevant investigation. Despite everything, Journalist Post will continue publishing to improve the freedom of the press and expression.
