Censorship to Nextflix from RTUK ( The Supreme Board of Radio Television) due to July 15th

With the RTÜK decision, Netflix closed the episode of the Designated Survivor series on the July 15 coup attempt.

The first sanction for Netflix came after the law related to online platforms that published ‘on demand’ issued at the end of 2019, came under RTÜK control. Designated Survivor series of the BBC, published in 2017, according to Turkish news episode 7 of season 2 was removed from the Netflix catalog Turkey. The episode is listed on Netflix content, but watching or downloading is not possible.

THE SERIES BECAME A TARGET WITH THE STORY OF JULY 15

The episode of Designated Survivor on July 15 coup in Turkey was a target of critics even before its release.

In the episode which is banned from Turkey catalogue , President of Turkey , the character played by Fatih Duran, experiences a conflict with the US president Tom Kirkman. The opposition Turkish politician named Nuri Şahin, who lives in the USA in this tension, is referring to the July 15 coup attempt and blackmails the son of the President of the USA. The story in question was criticized for the allegation that it supported ‘FETÖ’ and made propaganda.

LOVE 101 WAS TARGETED

Love 101, Turkish Netflix series published on 24th of April, was on the censor agenda . In the unofficial Twitter account opened in the name of Love 101, it was suggested that one of the main characters of the series was gay and the phrase “we are dark people under the colorful rainbow” was shared. The series was targeted on social media during this period, and statements containing hate speech against LGBTI + s were shared with the hashtag #netflixadamol.
