AKP and MHP reject press and freedom of speech commission

In order to remove the barriers to freedom of press and expression, the research commission proposal requested to be established in the Turkish Grand National Assembly was rejected. The proposal given by HDP Van Deputy Tayip Temel could not pass the parliament with rejection votes of AKP and MHP.

In the relevant section of the proposal,  “to remove the barriers for the press and expression freedom, termination of pressure on the free press, to identify the problems resulting from the pressures faced by journalists and the removal of experienced victimization and the press in Turkey and the elimination of obstacles to the provision of freedom of expression It is essential to establish a research commission to remove them. ”

AKP Balikesir Deputy Mustafa Canbey, who took the floor on behalf of his party on the group’s proposal to discuss the Parliamentary Research proposal in front of other proposals, claimed that the press was “extremely free”. The argument that Canbey, who was the manager of the Press Ad Institution in the past, “newspapers can choose the headlines they want” caused a controversy. CHP Istanbul Deputy Mahmut Tanal asked, “Was Sözcü newspaper punished for that?”, Canbey replied, “Yes yes”. CHP Group Deputy Chairman Özgür Özel also expressed his surprise in response to this response by AKP Canbey,”He said “Yes” for god’s sake!”
