Accreditation to news sites on High Speed Train

It was came into light that it is not possible to access news sites such as soL, Birgün, Cumhuriyet and Sözcü through the internet connection of TCDD’s High Speed Train, but possible to access sites such as Hürriyet and Yenişafak.  When users try to enter soL, for example, they get a message called “this website is copying haber.sol.org.tr to steal personal or financial information You need to go to previous page”.

According to soL news, this occurs when connecting to sites that provide secure connections ile with an SSL certificate. When the contact connects to haber.sol.org.tr, their browser gives this warning when they are actually redirected to another server

In other words, the TCDD redirects its passengers to another server trying to establish a news.sol.org.tr connection. As a result, the internet connection infrastructure offered by TCDD does not allow the connection to haber.sol.org.tr and the other mentioned news sites and makes another referral. Users trying to access news sites do not receive a message that access to the site is denied, instead they encounter a message that will cause security concerns about the site they are trying to connect to. On the news and reactions of the public, TCDD published a statement on the subject and stated that:

“ It is claimed that some newspapers and news sites dated 05 January 2020 have prohibited access to some newspapers’ websites and some news sites in the internet service of YHTs. Barriers to access to Internet sites are provided by the decision of the competent courts and the relevant public authorities implementing this decision. In addition, it was stated that there is no restriction on access to newspapers and websites in the internet service provided by the General Directorate of Highways.”

TCDD did not provide any explanation as to why the users who have problems cannot access the sites.
