The imprisoned journalist Nedim Türfent, with the letter he sent to his family, revealed the situation of the prison in the conditions of the epidemic with a newsletter. In the letter letter, he noted that no precautions were taken for the detainees in the risk group, and he added that an isolation, which was aggravated by the banning of all sports, activities, family-lawyer visits, was also initiated.
Journalist Nedim Türfent in the Van High Security Prison wrote a letter to her family and explained the domestic violations that occurred inside. Stating that despite the coronavirus threat, no precautions were taken for the detainees and convicts in the risk group, Türfent stated that the provided cleaning materials were insufficient and the masks were sold for money.
The letter that Türfent conveyed the conditions of the epidemic in prisons through the eyes of a journalist is as follows:
SICK PRISONERS WERE LEFT TO DIE
“With the banning of all sports, events, family-lawyers visits, an aggravated isolation started for 3-person and one-person cells. Especially the aggravated lifeguards, who are allowed to go to the courtyard for only one or two hours a day, are restricted even in fresh air. These prisoners are kept in absolute isolation in a narrow and blind cell, instead of staying with 3 people in wards with a common courtyard.
At least in the pandemic process, although they can apply to the institution and administration and the Ministry of Justice to stretch their hours to ensure clean and open air access, the officials are officially deny response.
No special precautions have been taken regarding detainees and convicts with diseases in the risk group announced by the Ministry of Health. Moreover, even his curative vital treatments have been stopped.
In the days when the judicial package is issued, political prisoners are not even benefiting from their existing rights. Although the prisoners whose sentence is less than one year are normally entitled to go to open prison and enjoy probation, the administration of the institution publicly ignores these rights.
Arafat Özek, who has 68-year-old asthma, toxic goiter, shortness of breath and blood pressure, is not released even though his sentence is less than a year (9 months left). Some of the detainees whose sentences are under one year but those rights are not recognized are as follows: Cahit Hezer, Arafat Özek (68), Azim Sökemen, Kemal Kahraman, M. Ali Kurdum, Mehvan Taş, Hakan Fırat, Kasım Temel, Orhan Ölmez, Suphi Çetinkaya, Tahir Gürdal .
NOT EVEN COLONIA AND GLOVES WERE PROVIDED
Although it has been requested many times, cologne and gloves are not given in any way. On the other hand, although the sale of masks is prohibited, the sale continues in the institution’s canteen. Gloves and disinfectants are not provided to prisoners for free. Also, although there are poor quality materials in the canteen of the institution, they are sold at exorbitant prices.
After the prisons open for special amnesty, prisoners working in the bakery and refectory went to their homes. The nutritional value, quality and diversity of the dishes have decreased as the newly appointed ones are not ‘competent’. Moreover, uncooked bread (and shapeless) is given from time to time.
TELE1 IS PROHIBITED AFTER YENİ YAŞAM AND EVRENSEL NEWSPAPERS
Although AYM has a precedent decision, subscriptions are not made for Yeni Yaşam and Xwebun newspapers. Evrensel newspaper, whose subscription fee was deducted in advance, was not given for 10 days without any reason during April.
Tele 1, the only opposition channel given to us in the institution, was removed from our central system because it “insulted the AKP” as the officials said. ”
