In August 15 Journalists taken custody, access to 700 news denied

Free Journalists Initiative (ÖGİ) announced the abuse of rights against journalists report in August. “Journalists are taken custody, get arrested and judged then sentenced every month.” “Pressures directed to journalists hit the top in the month of August.”

Increasing pressures against journalists were emphasized in the report. In Augustus ,which general opposition rates were increased, journalists following the activities were taken into custody.  It is stated that journalists were stonewalled more than once, investigated and sued. Access to hundreds of news denied as well.

146 JOURNALIST ARE IN JAIL

Demand to end the arbitrary and illegal pressures was stated in the report. “Currently 146 journalist are still in jail. If government justify that Turkey is a democratic country and respectful to law, they must set the arrested journalists free and end the pressure against them at once.”
