Schutz und zur strukturellen Stärkung des Journalismus 2022

This project, carried out within the framework of the Schutz und zur strukturellen Stärkung des Journalismus 2022 program, aimed to contribute to the protection of independent and high-quality journalism and to the structural strengthening of the media sector. Conducted under the title “Bochum’da Yalan Söyleyen Resimler” (“Lying Images in Bochum”), the project explained to participants how visual content can be manipulated, how such manipulation can be detected and how media content can be evaluated more critically. The project particularly aimed to strengthen media literacy by raising awareness about disinformation and misleading visual content. The project was implemented with the support of Deutschen Stiftung für Engagement und Ehrenamt.

Project Introduction

The project provided participants with the opportunity to gain a closer understanding of the production processes of visual content, manipulation methods and verification techniques. Activities organized around the theme “Yalan Söyleyen Resimler” examined how news images can be altered, how they can become misleading when taken out of context and which methods can be used to analyze such content.

This process supported participants in becoming not only consumers of media content, but also conscious media users capable of questioning, evaluating and identifying misinformation.
