Twitter, recently owned by Elon Musk, suspended the accounts of some journalists working at the American CNN, New York Times, Washington Post.
According to the discussion on NTV; While there was no explanation from Twitter or Elon Musk regarding the suspension, it was stated that the accounts of some journalists who criticized Musk were suspended in recent weeks.
Reporters whose accounts have been suspended include Donie O’Sullivan, from CNN Ryan Mac from New York Times, Drew Harwell Washington Post, Micah Lee from Intercept and journalist Aaron Rupar.
EU Warned
On the other hand, the European Union (EU) and Germany reacted to the account suspension.
Vera Jourova, Vice-President of the European Commission, expressed her opinion for the suspension of journalists’ accounts as “worrying” in a tweet.
Emphasizing that the EU’s Digital Services Law requires media freedom and respect for fundamental rights, Jourova said, “This is supported in our Media Freedom Law. Elon Musk should be aware of this. There are red lines and sanctions soon,” expressed she.
The EU’s Digital Services Act obliges internet platforms to warn and justify when users are suspended.
