Tens of thousands of social media accounts were investigated last year in Turkey, which is ranked 153rd among 180 countries in the World Press Freedom Index.
The Annual Report of the General Directorate of Security for the Year 2021 has been published. According to the report, last year 106 thousand social media users were investigated for numerous accusations, especially ‘insulting the President’.

Accounts whose posts contain ‘making propaganda for a terrorist organization, selling drugs, or committing the crime of incitement by encouraging the people to hatred and enmity, violence against women, violence against animals, insult to the president of the state, overturn to the indivisible integrity of the community on safety of life’. underwent investigation and 106 thousand social media accounts were examined as expressed in the report.
According to the report, 46,646 of these accounts contained criminal information.
