Yeni Yaşam Newspaper’s Editor-in-Chief Mehmet Ferhat Çelik and Editor-in-Chief Aydın Keser, Odatv Responsible News Manager Barış Terkoğlu, Editor-in-Chief Barış Pehlivan and his correspondent Hülya Kılınç and New Age Writer Murat Ağırel should have their hearing on Friday, May 8. However the hearing was made on Saturday. While the hearing was highlighted by the decision of the Istanbul 2nd Criminal Court of Peace, some other lawyers were appointed instead of the lawyers of the arrested journalists who were not informed about this decision.
During the scandal, it was decided to continue the detention of journalists. The fact that the hearing date was brought forward was justified in the court as follows: “As a result of the amendment made in the article 108 of Law No. 6459 and the Law numbered 5271, CMK has become obligatory due to the fact that the documents have become obligatory for the requests to be heard in accordance with CMK 108 article, and the delay in the request is delayed.” It was understood that our court was asked to appoint a defense counselor from the bar, and the assignment was made without reaching the advocates, and in this case, the document was examined, it was not necessary to summon the suspects personally. ”
Özcan Kılıç, the lawyer of Yeni Yaşam newspaper, pointed out that while the investigation of the journalists’ file is ongoing by the court, the prosecutor’s office has been pirated. Kılıç said, “This is a method that has never been applied until now, and we have seen it. The decision includes phrases such as “Because it is in a hurry, because it is weekend, because there is no opportunity to call lawyers”. They persistently coincide with the weekend. Normally, the detention review days are every month’s 8th but they put it on 2nd.
