Mümtazer Türköne: I feel hope for my country

“Because of the absence of law, Turkey first lost its social capital and then the trust environment.” said arrested journalist and political scientist Mümtazer Türköne.

He was arrested at the operations aimed at journalists after 15th of July and has been in jail for 3 years due to his opponent columns. Türköne gave an interview to Ruşem Çakır from Medyascope TV. “Hope is not poor mans but the prisoners bread.” “I feel hope for my country.” he expressed.

He said “There is a rush in The High Court not to save the state of law but to save their dignity.” “They’re the first to stay under the wreckage. One way or another there will be a return to law otherwise this country loses all.”

“I know how suffered the ones who underwent an operation in Silivri.”

His surgery demand denied, regardless of his hearts operating with 20% efficiency, because of obstacles from the military police and the prosecution. “For companion, post-operation care and other needs, tons of permissions had to be taken.” “I know how much pain those in Silivri felt.”

Türköne is in jail over his writings

Mümtazer Türköne is both arrested and convicted due to what he wrote to his column. In his writings, Türköne criticize the government focused on law and justice and he sums up the current situation “In Turkey no one knows where do the line between being an opponent and  being a terrorist starts and ends.”

“I declared my innocence by simplifying it”

“I expressed what actional assault means in the scope of Turkish grammar and simplified it as much as I could.” “Then, I gave one and only example of actional assault that came to my mind and I told it step by step.” “ You cut the column with a scissors and make a paper plane from it and throw it to the air and it hurts someones eye.” “Nothing more comes to my mind” I said

He got 4 years and 2 months from the case led him to get arrested and 10 years and 6 months from the Zaman Newspaper case. Mümtazer Türköne is waiting abuse of right decision from the Supreme Court just like Şahin Alpay and Ali Bulaç examples.
