GfbV (Society for Threatened Peoples (STP)) Middle East consultant Dr. Kamal Sido published a message through our association due to World Press Freedom Day.

Calling for Turkey to comply with EU standards and the Constitution, Sido underlined that expression and freedom of thought was also guaranteed by constitutional article.

Society for Threatened Peoples publishes reports every year, examining countries under pressure from communities. After July 15, hundreds of journalists with arrested and fired via decree laws is the one reason for the society’s decision to take over the thought and press freedom situation in Turkey.

Dr. Kamal Sido stated that journalists’ expressing their opinions and opinions about the political situation is the natural requirement of journalism. Sidon was also stated that they are next to the journalist forced to leave Turkey.

GfbV (Society for Threatened People) Middle East desk chief Dr. Kamala Sido’s complete message:

Every year, we announce our thoughts to the press around the world of threatened peoples. As part of this project, we decided to take a year of thought and discussed the situation of press freedom in Turkey. We will probably continue this next year. It is why we choose Turkey as well as the shutdowns of newspapers and broadcasters have been arrested and several journalists in the press last year.

There are informations about which there are nearly 200 imprisoned journalists in Turkey. These journalists expressed their opinions and thoughts about the political situation in their country. This is the most natural right of journalists.

Turkey should comply with the EU standarts and the Turkish Constitution. There are many articles and passages in the Turkish Constitution that prohibit this and demand that freedom of expression be guaranteed. We chose Turkey because of all these reasons.

We would also expect this of us journalists living in exile in Turkey because we chose Turkey. We know that after the 2016 coup, many journalists had to flee. Many are trying to survive in exile and under very difficult conditions. For these reasons, we wanted to explain our thoughts. We support these journalists and we think we are doing something good.
